Basketball, brrrrrr and ballet

We have been staying busy since my last update on the 6th. The weekend of the 11th we traveled to Lubbock for two basketball games. The first was Lubbock Christian University vs. Oklahoma Christian Univeristy. My team lost :( but it was great to see all the people from OC that I used to work with. We grabbed Subway for dinner before heading over to Texas Tech to watch the Lady Raiders beat Colorado.

We have continued with our busy weekday schedule and most of the girls seem to be thriving on it. I do have some concerns about grades, but the highschool and junior high are very slow about getting them out this round. I will know more later.

Winter has finally arrived in Amarillo. To say the least, we have been spoiled up until now and it is down right cold! The forcast said it was supposed to snow, but that never panned out.

One of our amazing donors donated tickets for us to go see the ballet "Sleeping Beauty" at the new Globe-News Center for Performing Arts. Our seats were on the second balcony, but the Center is built so well, there are really no bad seats. Most of my girls loved it! I am just stunned with how graceful, strong and skillful people like that are.

NASCAR season opened with the Daytona 500, so I have lost my husband on Sunday afternoons.

KK has made marked improvements in her behavior and attitude. She is really having to work at it, so I am afraid it may not last long. She is also having more problems at school and her grades have suffered because of it. MB seems to have turned things around a little bit. At school it seems that if her grades are good, she has poor behavior and if her behavior is good, she has poor grades. Gotta work on that a lot. Since MS has earned a new level, she has stopped focusing on making the right choices and having a positive attitude. I am beginning to wonder if we should have waited to put her in drivers education. I think this may all be a little much for her. Too late now, huh? MR tried out for her track team and didn't make it, which I was very sad about. She was okay with it though. One thing that bothered me is that only kids who were on the team last year made it this year. This happened for volleyball too. I might have to check into that. SM received really bad news this week that started to throw her into a funk, but she realized it and brought herself out of it. Her blood sugars have been good this week and a half, minus one or two test times. I think she may be passing all her classes finally! KR is back into making really poor choices. She goes in cycles though. I hope this one doesn't last too long. When it starts, her self-esteem drops very low for a week or more and then things are okay. LF went and saw an Orthopedic Surgeon. He said her back was fine and she can run track. While she is excited about that, she was a little upset that she did not make Varsity even though she only a freshman. The coaches told her that if she had been practicing the past 6 months like she has been practicing the past 2, she would have defenitaly made varsity. That really frustrated her because she would say to herself or us often that she needed to do more running for track season. I guess she will be working really hard this summer. The same day she went and saw the surgeon, she also got braces put on. They are killing her mouth and I am ready to reach in and take them off myself just to get her stop whining!

Have a great week!
