We had a major change in our house during the second week of April. It is that change that has caused me to do my typical thing of withdraw under stress. For that, I am sorry. I would promise to be better about blogging, but I think that would be another promise I break, so I won't do it.
In April, we added two new girls to our house, making to total 8, the most we can have. The thing is, these two girls are sisters and are 7 and 8 years old. This is not an age group I am comfortable with and they take a lot supervision that I am not use to having to give. They have brothers on campus as well, so that also means that I have half of my house with siblings in other houses, which makes getting them together to see each other difficult at times. Now we have the following ages in our house: 7, 8, 10, 11,15, 15, 16, 16. And there is one of the bigger problems in taking in these two girls. It is very difficult to do much together as a "family" because they really don't like do same things. Movies are almost impossible to watch together because of age appropriateness issues (the teens can only handle so many cartoons), shopping is a bear because I have to keep the "little ones" with me, but I also have to approve the clothing that the high school girls buy, and showers and bedtime now start at 7 p.m. That is very early! I am hoping that this will change for the summer, but the younger girls are really struggling tp make good choices right now, so I don't know if that will happen.
My diabetic, SM, was put on an insulin pump last week! This has been a great blessing so far and will be wonderful in the future. However, for the first two weeks, we have to check her blood sugar often throughout the night. This required me getting up every two hours the first night, but now, it is just at 12 a.m. and 3 a.m. to make sure she is checking. This of course makes for a wonderful night's sleep!
Jason and I recenlty spent some time in the mountains of Colorado. It was great! We fished, read, shot our bows, slept and just enjoyed each other's company. It was defenitly what I needed before school lets out.
Speaking of which, today is the last official day of school. The kids will all be out by noon and then the chaos of summer begins. We have kids going every which way throughout the summer. I hope that makes it fly by.
I am very excited to have my friends, Phil and Tarese, bring some of their youth group kids down in a few weeks. It will be wonderful to hang out with them.
Our families are doing fine. My mother was recently as Grandparent of Year at Brentwood, where my nephew goes to school. That was quite a surprise for her. She has been involved at Brentwood for a long time. Marquita, who is the president, made the comment that I managed to graduate from BCS, but my mother has not. And to think, my nephew is just finishing kindergarten. My poor mother has a long way to go! Jason neice, Stephanie, finished JV softball and their team ended up in second place. Not what they wanted, but she was okay with it. She started travel ball last weekend. She is an excellent catcher, but this will be the first year in a long time that she will not be catching for her best friend. Stephanie is not too happy about, but there is nothing she can do.
Okay, I need to go run errands. Thanks for stopping by!
